VILLA H

Stora Hult

Inspired by local barn typology, we merged three volumes into a long, staggered form to create a building that changes as you move around it.

Volumes at play

We designed this home for a family of four on a narrow plot, nestled in the rolling farmland of Southern Sweden. To anchor the project in its surroundings, we drew inspiration from a nearby barn typology, intersecting volumes to create an almost church-like interior with a soaring 5-meter-high ceiling in the main living area. Heated concrete floors and white walls give the space a gallery-like feel, while natural wood tones in the kitchen and furniture add warmth. Large windows flood the living spaces with daylight, while the children’s bedrooms offer a more controlled light environment. Our goal was to achieve a seamless design where volumes, fixed furniture and doorways harmoniously intersect and is stripped of excess ornament.

"We began with three archetypal volumes inspired by the local barn typology and merged them into a long, staggered form. This design creates distinct spaces around the home and allows sunlight and shadows to interact dynamically with both the exterior and interior."
